My favorite--the "tuxedo" car |
|
These people were in such a happy mood |
Myrie and I were desperately trying to get to La Cite this day. It is, after all, the main tourist attraction of Carcassonne. But there have been so many things to see and do here in the Bastide, where we live and work, that we have just not been able to get up the hill. Perhaps tomorrow--and it would be nicer, in my opinion, because we can take the bus as opposed to hucking up that hill! Bad Charlotte. I should want to walk the hill--it's better for me.

I have seen this one before, but always with the top rolled open |
|
What a fun ride |
Part of the problem is that even though we got up early enough, we spent the morning getting tickets on the SNCF website to Sete for this coming Wednesday. By the time we accomplished that, took our showers, breakfasted, cleaned the kitchen--it was nearly 11:00.

I recognize a Mercedes, but this looks new to me |
|
Probably a daring color scheme? |
But Providence must have intended that to happen, because as we were taking out the glass to the recycle bin at Carnot, we came across the parade of antique cars. Oh my!!! I didn't get as strong a "car gene" as some of my friends, but I can appreciate good lines, attention to detail and high polish.

This one looks fast and dangerous |

Fancy grill work |
I wonder about the stories behind the people who owned the originals. I wonder at the stories of those who've gone to all the trouble to restore what sometimes is just a hunk of rusted metal and mildewed upholstery. The owners of a kit car--black with orange accents--were stopped in traffic and I asked them about their car. I asked how long it had taken the husband to complete the work. When he replied, "Trois mois --three months," I remarked that they were still married! We all shared a chuckle.

My "Sweetie Pie's" Sister? |

Is this really an antique? |

Sled on the back of the kit car |

Love the orange accents |
There were a lot of cars in the parade, most of them unfamiliar to me. My favorite was the "tuxedo" car, at least until I saw a bight little yellow number. The things I love about these old cars are the lines, the curves, the big swatches of polished color. I got a few "photographs" of them--mostly almost abstract photographs, and a lot of "snapshots."

This guy was massively elegant |

A little blue number |

My heart went thunk! |
I recognized a few of the brands of cars, but most are unknown to me. I also have to confess to being a little nonplussed to see what looked like a sister to my old VW bug listed as a vintage model. What does that make me?
The antique car show was incredible. My husband would have loved seeing all of them. He was such a "car-buff". Thank you for sharing all the pictures with me. Marian
